Heat Advisory for all of Central Florida

Feature Image

Summary:

But the heat is on today. Heat advisory goes into effects. You want to make sure you're being careful while you're out and about today or really any day. It's just been so hot. So make sure you're staying hydrated. We'll go ahead and start you off with a live look outside. In Cape Canaveral, gorgeous, beautiful sunshine, not tracking any showers or storms at the moment.

Starting off Quiet and Warm

So we are starting off very quiet, but it is warm. Lower 80s in Cape Canaveral, feeling like 86 with winds out of the West Southwest at only three miles per hour. So here's a look at the setup as we take a look at the satellite and radar. We do have a frontal boundary, a cold front way off to our north. You can see showers and thunderstorms right along that front. Not going to affect us at all. But air of high pressure out to our West over the Gulf of Mexico, that's going to keep our winds out of the West today.

Showers and Thunderstorms Expected

So we'll be dealing with that West Coast sea breeze, which is going to jumpstart those showers and thunderstorms as we go through the later morning hours into the afternoon. Already beginning to see some isolated showers and thunderstorms way off to our West outside of our viewing area. But hold on and may reach Marion County, but many of us, I do expect things to start off dry before showers and thunderstorms begin to develop. Here's a look at your temperatures. If you are heading out the door right now, it is warm. It is sticky out there. 77 degrees in Melbourne, 80 in Cocoa Beach.

Extreme Heat and UV Index

Good morning. As we go to Daytona Beach, 77. We're looking at 77 in Leesburg and 80 degrees in Orlando. So today it is going to be hot and temperatures will be above average. My forecast high for today, 95. Heat index values between 107 to 111 degrees. That is very dangerous. So if you're working outside, doing anything outside, just make sure you're drinking plenty of water. We tell you all the time because it is very important. And also the UV index will be high, so don't forget the sunscreen. So scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to pop up between this timeframe, 10 a.m. through 7 p.m.

Now as we take a look at the rainfall potential, a few areas could pick up up to an inch, up to two inches. We may see a little bit of street flooding that includes New Smyrna Beach, up to two inches according to this model, up to an inch out in Melbourne, but other spots may be a trace, up to a quarter of an inch out in Orlando. And for the month of August, we haven't seen much rain. We're actually below average. Yesterday, we didn't see anything, so we could use a little bit of rain in the metro area. Now as we jump ahead to this upcoming work week, temperatures will remain above average. We'll have an air of high pressure way off to our west. Over Texas, that's gonna continue to expand over our area, and that's gonna keep our temperatures well above average in the middle to upper 90s. So here's a look at your seven day forecast, getting you results if you're now tuning in, 95 today, with a 50% coverage for showers and thunderstorms. Tonight's gonna be fairly quiet, under partly cloudy skies, overnight temperatures falling into the middle to upper 70s. Tomorrow's gonna be hot, 96 a 50% coverage for showers and thunderstorms, hot around Tuesday, 97, and we stay in the upper 90s Wednesday, Thursday, middle 90s on Friday, even next weekend looks fairly hot, but we are looking at moderate to high rain chances daily, so just make sure you have an umbrella with you, just in case.
