Top speed excitement for the Formula 1 race in Miami l GMA

Now to Formula One and its lights out and away we go. The world's fastest sport ready to race this weekend in Miami. And ESPN's Marty Smith joins us live from Magic City with a preview of all the high octane action. Marty, good morning to you. Love the shirt. It's always great to have you with us. Man, I wore my best.

I went in the closet and found the best thing I had just for you, brother. This screams Miami right here. I'm really proud of this shirt. It sure does. I appreciate you acknowledging it. The flamingos are a nice touch. All right, let's jump right into it here because F1 back in Miami for a second year set the scene for us.

And for anybody who's new to the motorsport here, what should we expect about what's happening this weekend? First of all, Formula One has a unique energy. I have the blessing of covering every sport. And when you come into one of these events, you realize that you're in a part of something special and unique and that is really growing in the United States of America. And the expectation that the folks here in Miami, Steve and Ross, the owner of the Dolphins in his group, put forth last year means that there's a lot of expectation for this time around. And the scene was electric here last year. And so that's a lot to live up to. And they have worked very hard to make sure that they stay new and fresh.

They've redone the paddock. It's super cool. So let's get people up to speed here because last week's race team Red Bull extending their lead. They've been dominating this season. Tell us about some of the stars on the team and what can we expect? They're 4 for 4 this year. They've won every race so far with Max Verstappen, the two-time defending world champion, and his teammate Sergio Perez. Dominant is the word because in the 216 laps that have been raced this season, they've led 200 of them.

The other nine teams have led 16. And so what it's coming down to is it's these two teammates racing against one another on a weekly basis for victory. And what comes with that, the potential for jealousy, the potential for paranoia. So it's a unique situation. And they are by far the standard by which every other team is measured right now in this sport. All eyes on the new American driver, Logan Sargent. What would a successful weekend look like for him? It's been a unique challenge for him.

He's only four races into his F1 life. And he's with a team that doesn't have the same capability right now in terms of the performance of their race cars that Red Bull or Ferrari or Mercedes have. And so it's an uphill battle for him. Marty Smith, thank you so much. We appreciate it. You've got to send me one of those shirts. We'll go to Margaritaville together.

It's in the mail, brother. You got it, brother. Thank you so much. Of course, you can catch all the qualifying action rounds starting this afternoon at 4 PM Eastern on ESPN. Then it's the Miami Grand Prix. Telecast begins tomorrow at 2 PM Eastern and on ABC. It streams on ESPN Plus as well.
