The heat is coming for the Pacific Northwest and it's expected to stick around a while

Well on this Friday morning, conditions are already feeling a little bit mild at least here in Spokane, and temperatures will keep climbing for not just of course the rest of this week, but through the extended forecast as we'll see plenty of days in the 80s, feeling a bit more like July as opposed to May. So here's our weather setup. High pressure kind of drifting through the Pacific Northwest should keep our skies pretty clear for today. In fact, our rain chances, which were about 5% yesterday, down to about 2% for today. There's so minuscule that I'm not even going to worry about any kind of rainfall forward today, so should see even less activity for this afternoon. High of 79 Spokane, oh so close to that 80 degree mark, but we'll start to crack that for this upcoming weekend and just look at how the 80s just keep on coming. Even beyond the seven day started to look still even warmer.

Yet some models still hinting at that possibility of 90 degrees, though I think that's going to be a stretch personally. I think mid 80s is right in that sweet spot of where we're settling in, and that's most of next week. By the way, our records. If you take a sample of any day next week, they're between 90 and 93, so probably just shy of records here locally, but with heat advisories on the western side of the Pacific Northwest anywhere from Seattle to Portland, Western Oregon. Those are the locations most likely to set record highs for this Sunday and Monday when temperatures are going to be the hottest out West. And the reason why is that the winds are coming out of the east. The one small update I made to this weekend's forecast is we're actually expecting breezy conditions.

You can almost see the winds working together to provide that easterly flow through the inland Northwest on Sunday. So a breezy day then, but the ridge remains, so that's why our temperatures stay in the 80s, but this little itty bitty disturbance starts to continue to give us those scattered afternoon shower and thunderstorm chances later on next week. I've included that for Tuesday and Wednesdays forecast, but it could be on any day. I mean, think of it this week where we had those scattered afternoon showers. It's the same thing next week, except those temperatures are going to be much warmer and in the mid 80s. But yeah, your Mother's Day is looking very nice sunny skies 83 degrees for a high, but it will be a bit on the breezy side.
