Orangetown residents, officials discuss asylum seekers at board meeting

Orange Town in Rockin County has filed a restraining order to block the city's plans to send asylum seekers to a hotel there. Residents and elected officials spoke at a packed board meeting tonight. He doesn't have the jurisdiction. It violates the concept of home rule in New York State and is deeply offensive. We have no problem helping, but this is being force-fed and it's not fair. We can't go down there and tell Mayor Adams what to do. Why is he doing that to us? Arguments on the restraining order will be heard in court Monday morning.

A spokesperson for Mayor Adams says it's up to the hotel to decide how to move forward in Rockin County. The city is also planning to move a small number of asylum seekers to Orange County as early as tomorrow.
