Order protecting gender-affirming care signed by Gov. Walz
Alright, thank you, Rob. Well, protecting the rights of Minnesota's LGBTQ plus community, the governor signing into law a new bill for them to receive gender affirming health care. Today's executive order allows people to seek and receive treatments to support a person's gender identity, including hormone therapy, mental health counseling, and other support methods. As other states discuss legislation to ban gender affirming health care, the governor saying this decision was a no-brainer to help Minnesotans be their true selves. Now I want to be clear. I can't pretend to understand what goes through people's minds. I cannot imagine the stress that families and individuals go through.
But here in Minnesota, we're going to be a place of refuge to make sure that they feel safe and welcome. And I don't know what a group of people in Pierre who decide to make life miserable and more dangerous for people are thinking, but it's not going to happen in Minnesota. Five states currently have a ban on gender affirming care for transgender youth with more than a dozen other states considering similar bans in 2023.
