Legendary jazz saxophonist Wayne Shorter dies at age 89



And the music world is mourning the loss of a jazz great. Music Grammy-winning sax man and composer Wayne Shorter has died. He is credited with helping shape the sound of contemporary jazz. During his career, Shorter was nominated for 23 Grammys, 112, including one in January for best improvised jazz solo performance. Shorter was born and raised in Newark, earned a degree in music education at NYU. According to his publicist, Shorter died today in Los Angeles. Wayne Shorter was 89 years old.
