Here's what to expect as Gonzaga takes on UConn in the Elite 8 for March Madness

Good evening and thank you for joining us for this special edition of Krem 2 News. I'm Mark Hanrahan. And I'm Whitney Ward. What a day in the NCAA tournament. Tonight we are recapping what you may have missed as March Madness continues. We want to start first though with how the Zags are preparing for their Elite 8 game against number four seed Yukon. Both teams spoke to the media this afternoon.

Sports director Travis Green is in Las Vegas tonight with what both teams had to say ahead of the big game. Gonzaga is coming off an all time game on Thursday night. Julian Strother with a shot that will go down in Gonzaga history to beat UCLA. But now the Zags have to quickly turn their attention to a real tough Yukon team. It was kind of one of those things, kind of like a short memory. Because I mean in March there's no time to dwell in the past and you know try to live in that moment too too much. But yeah I mean tomorrow's already game day so that's what we've got our eyes set on.

Everybody's fired up and excited to still be playing in the greatest sporting event in the world. So uh but it's a short night and Yukon presents a lot of problems. Those problems come in big man Adama Sonogo and sophomore guard Jordan Hawkins. Sonogo leads the Huskies with over 17 points a game. He's an all-american caliber player. Huses his body really well. He's strong.

He's aggressive. He gets a lot of his misses back which I think is underrated part of his game. He presents a lot of challenges and he's a smart player so I mean he's going to be a handful for sure. Hawkins averaged over 16 points a game this season and is coming off a 24 point performance in the win over Arkansas in the sweet 16. You can be there in his space and have a hand up and he's still able to hit those. He's so dangerous. He's had I think multiple 20 point halves.

HALFS. And so he's definitely at the top of our list. The last time Gonzaga had a game winning shot in the tourney they ended up disappointed in the following game. Drew Timmy is hoping to take what he learned from that into Saturday. We did celebrate as the final 41 of the championship. Like that's such a huge moment and this year what we did was we just watched film right when we got home and I think that helped a lot. Kind of put things into perspective and we saw how good Yukon was and what's obviously that moment was great but it is a quick turnaround and that's what makes the tournament so hard.

The first spot for Gonzaga and Yukon is set for 549 right here at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Travis Green, Crème du Sports.
