Events bring huge crowds to Miami



It's that time of year again. The Ultra Music Festival has drawn tens of thousands to South Florida for a wild weekend of dancing and fun. Tonight the crowds were in downtown Miami for day one of the main event. And in a strange contrast, South Beach, an area that's seen large crowds and violence this spring break was fairly empty in comparison. Over at Ultra police saw a few problems and think they're in position to keep the peace all weekend. CBS News Miami's Larry Seaworth is at Bayfront Park and says that cameras give them confidence. Cameras are part of it, but that crowd had layers of security in and around it and music lovers felt.

Below pyrotechnics, ultra headliners, speaker, rattling music, it's all party all weekend with limits and live in such an unsafe world right? But really you don't see too much violence happening here right now. Security guarded Metro mover platforms and roam festival grounds with music lovers Miami police more than helped. On top of uniforms, they're using a system of high definition cameras that can zoom in where needed. They gave us this exclusive look inside their real time crime center, where police call their system an effective deterrent across Biscayne Bay State Troopers help Miami Beach police with a DUI checkpoint, the crackdown comes one week after a shooting in spring break crowds on Ocean Drive. This time you could hear ocean waves on Ocean Drive. No crowded street people replaced by one lane of traffic barricades shielded sidewalks to do you feel safer? Yeah, of course, yeah with the barricade especially because I think people can't just like run around across the street and like cause chaos with just two arrests reported near shows and Miami police feel their plan is off to a good start.
