Disney World reaches union deal with minimum $18 hourly wage



Matt, thank you. 804 your time. Following months of negotiations and protests like the one you see right here, Disney has reached a tentative deal with the Union. Now the biggest battle was an agreement on a pay raise. Let's bring in Fox 35's Amanda McKenzie. She is live outside while Disney World this morning. Amanda, good morning to you.

Once again, now here's the thing. If ratified, Disney workers would soon start making a minimum of $18 an hour. And this new deal makes Disney the highest paying tourism employer in Orlando. Now this negotiation has been going on for months between Disney and the Union, but they were finally able to reach an agreement and by the end of the year, workers will be making a minimum of $18 an hour. Workers will also receive back pay dating back to October 2022. It's a move that many Disney workers say will make a huge difference for them. This proposal is going to make a big life changing things to happen with our family and we live in a one bedroom apartment.

Maybe we can make it too since we have a little one. While Disney World released this statement saying in part quote, Our cast members are central to Walt Disney World's enduring magic, which is why we are pleased to have reached this tentative agreement. With the support of the unions, we anticipate cast members will approve this new agreement. We expect the union to vote on this pay increase measure sometime next week.
