California governor cancels renewal of $54 million Walgreens contract

Breaking tonight, California Governor Gavin Newsom is not renewing a $54 million state contract with Walgreens to provide medications to its state prisoners. That is in response to the company saying last week it would not dispense abortion pills in 21 states where Republican attorneys general threatened legal action. Currently, Walgreens is waiting on approval from the FDA to dispense directly those abortion pills in some states.
