Aaron Judge's captaincy of Yankees officially begins
the first time together, but today there was some added significance for a Yankee superstar CBS two Steve Overmires live in Tampa at Yankees training camp with the story for us. Steve. Yeah, Christine Maurice. This was the first day of the Aaron judge captaincy. As a matter of fact, this led to what Aaron Boone called a spirited workout. The tone for the day was exactly what it was. And it's a special day when the full squad takes on the new captaincy.
The captaincy was the first to come back. The tone for the day was exactly matching Aaron judge's personality, which is his why they named him captain. Captain has arrived on the major reason why I wanted to come back and work in stripes. We had a lot of unfinished business here, so you know, looking forward to. You know, this new role, but I don't think a lot of stuff doesn't change for me. You know, it got me in this position. I just wanted to be the first to come back and work in stripes.
I really wanted to go forward. This was Aaron judges first workout since signing that $360 million deal and the first time on the field as the 16th captain in Yankees history, an incredible title that don't take lightly, but. You know, I still got a job to do on the field, and you know, I think what I've done over the past couple years put me in this position, so you know why change and always want to improve, but don't try to change. You know, I think I really wanted to be the first to come back and work in stripes. I think I really wanted to be the first to come back and work in stripes. I think at that point, you know, I grew up watching Derek Jeter, who was the previous captain, so I think it's pretty cool. I get to play with a Yankee.
That's another captain. So it's awesome. Fans showed up in mass and on President's Day, it even allowed for a younger crowd. I got to be like in Florida like next to people like real Yankee like real Yankee players. Judge, of course, is no stranger to the Yankee. He's a great player. He's a great player.
I think he's the first to come back and work in the stripes. And he's the first to come back. So what does he get? Number 62? I don't really like putting a number on it. I just like kind of like going out there and trying to control what I can control, but you never know what could happen. So we'll see about 62. All right, we will see. I mean, Aaron judges already achieved individual goals like MVP and the ale home run king.
The captain. I think he's the first to come back. I think he's the first to come back. He's the first to come back, captain and bring home a championship back to the Bronx. We'll find out this year, but this is just the first step on that journey. Yeah, love the kid. The fan I got like next to like the guy who's like other Yankee fans.
Oh my gosh. What a thrill for all of them to be.
