The Piedmont Triad is starting to dry out after a line of severe storms rolled through earlier tonight, causing damage and power outages. Other parts of the Carolinas also experienced serious damage.

Villaranda Williams sent a picture from the Liberty area showing pickup trucks crushed by a tree. In Randleman, a tree blocked a roadway. Chief meteorologist Laney Pope explained that while there was damage in the triad, it wasn't as widespread as in other areas. The storm brought lightning and intense weather, potentially leading to tornadoes in the Mecklenburg County area. Trees and power lines were down in various counties, including Davy, Davidson, and Guilford. The storms have subsided, and tomorrow is expected to be sunny with temperatures in the 60s.

Hundreds of thousands of customers are without power in North Carolina, mainly in the Triangle and Charlotte areas.
