Local business shuts down citing lack of protection after back-to-back shootings on Cherokee Street

The suspects arrested for Saturday shooting on Cherokee Street has been released from jail with no charges. Fox News Stephanie Rothman reports a business owner caught in the violence is taking steps to protect her staff and customers. Well many businesses are still reeling from this. A lot of people feel like they've just been numbed unfortunately to the violence. But others are taking measures. This includes love goddess healing oasis. They're now closing their doors until they can get protocol in place to have bulletproof windows because they are at the heart of this violence that happened over the weekend.

Friday night two men are shot in front of a business meant for healing. It's a safe space for beautiful souls to seek refuge so they can heal spiritually and they broke our boundary. Almost 24 hours later, down the street during the popular Cinco de Mayo festival, an argument resulted in gunshots. One woman shot and a man grazed by a bullet. People with strollers and kids running into a business and of course my man, the rest of my coworkers, we got scared and so we started running as well. One woman seen on surveillance camera with a gun was arrested. Investigators suggested assault and armed criminal action charges.

But Wednesday, the circuit attorney's office refused to press charges, citing lack of evidence and the victim not cooperating. We all have insurance, but we're not protected. So we need the protection. We know violence is going to happen, but what are you guys doing to protect us? The circuit attorney's office declines an interview, instead saying in a statement, quote, we're working closely with police on this ongoing investigation. We cannot comment further at this time. St. Louis Metro Police continue to search for a second person of interest.

If you have any information, you're asked to call police. Reporting on Cherokee Street, Stephanie Rothman, Fox 2 News.
