A lot of people have dates circled on the calendar for travel these next few weeks. Spring break coming up of course, but after that deadly kidnapping in Mexico last week, many fear that many fear may creep in for some planning trips abroad. I'm not fearful of traveling because pretty much good things can happen anywhere and bad things can happen anywhere. But others are a bit fearful.

Spring break season is approaching and it's one of the busiest times of the year for Cindy Minor, a travel agent. People are, you know, they're tired of the cold weather, they're tired of the rain and they're looking for someplace warm and sunny. But this year she's hearing more concerns from those on the fence about traveling abroad. Many likely still thinking about the four Americans who were kidnapped at gunpoint in Mexico last week. It does not matter where you are going. We want you to use good judgment, make good choices and feel like you're safe. There are ways she says you can still enjoy your trip all while keeping you and even your friends and family safe.

Check the state department's website for travel advisory levels. That can tell you where some of the safer locations are. Also avoid Ubers or cabs. Instead verify and reserve a car service to drive you around. Finally, if you're planning an outing away from the resort, book those offsite excursions through the resort. The internet really has opened up the world for our clients and for people out there to book their own trips. Travel agents are also good to have because they can help guide you in a direction that can keep you out of harm's way.

I know that it's very tempting to get on the internet and find the best deal and just book it yourself. But the thing you have to understand is that if you get into trouble, if you have some challenges, if things don't go the way you want them to, you're on your own.
