House unanimously passes bill to declassify intelligence on COVID's origins

this morning we're marking a COVID milestone. The pandemic was officially declared three years ago today. And now there's a new focus on where the virus originated. CBS News, Christina Phan joins us live from the newsroom with the update. Christina. Andrea and Doug, good morning. As the pandemic enters its fourth year, the virus is still killing hundreds of people a day worldwide.

Lawmakers say it's time the Biden administration reveals what it knows about where the virus came from to better prevent future outbreaks. Three years since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic, the virus is still spreading and the death toll is nearing 7 million worldwide. While the WHO is not yet ready to declare the emergency over, the White House is. Back in January, the Biden administration announced the end of COVID emergency declarations on May 11th. But there are still many unknowns about the long term health effects. Doctors in San Diego are investigating what appears to be an increase in a debilitating condition called POTS. I went from being a healthy woman in her 30s to being pushed into my doctor's appointments in a transport wheelchair.

Nurse Nicole Baca was diagnosed with a disorder of the autonomic nervous system after catching the virus in 2020. Estimates suggest around 1 million people have developed the condition after COVID. A lot of people are dismissed as having anxiety or a psychological disorder because people are not aware of POTS. We have known for many years that POTS can occur after various viral illnesses. Thanks to a wall of immunity built from infections and vaccines, most people have resumed their normal lives. But the true origin of the virus is still up for debate. There are some elements within the intelligence community that have reached conclusions on one side.

There are others that have reached conclusions on the other. The House voted unanimously Friday to declassify U.S. intelligence information related to China's Wuhan Institute of Virology, citing potential links between the research done there and the outbreak. Experts say the truth may take years to come out, if ever. And the bill to declassify information has been sent to President Biden's desk. When asked, the president said he has not decided if he will sign it.
