E-bike blamed for Bronx fire that injured 7

the fire. We're going to go into the next few minutes. We're going to go into the next few minutes. A massive fire at a Bronx grocery store leaves several people and first responders injured. Fire officials spent hours battling that fire and the cause. Another lithium ion battery. That's right.

Fox is Briella Thomas Eddie is live in Fordham Heights with the very latest. Good morning, Briella. Good morning to both of you, Dan and to Shawnee. You'll see how large that fire was in just a few minutes. We're going to go into the next few minutes. We're going to go into the next few minutes. We're going to smoke.

Engulfed this entire neighborhood, and it's pretty much a miracle that everyone made it out alive. The damage you can't immediately see, though. The jobs that were lost and the countless lives that were impacted by this. There is extraordinary damage. This entire building behind me is completely destroyed. The roof is caved in. There is nothing left.

A five alarm fire that reduced a Bronx supermarket to a single. The fire was destroyed in the morning. The fire was set on a single e bike battery. The call came in at 10 41 yesterday morning within minutes. Crews arrived on scene at East 180th Street and Grand Concourse. Those who lived in nearby apartments spilled out onto the streets with their children and pets. It's just exhausting to see so much damage and so much smoke everywhere as the presence of more than 200 firefighters, 50 emergency fire that is produced by a single battery in just under five minutes was we were unable to get ahead of it.

The FDNY released this video via Twitter demonstrating how a device that seems so small can cause irreparable damage. The clip taken from the back of Concourse Food Plaza shows burning embers igniting old aged lumber quickly and golfing an entire room. Fire officials say shooting flames are a very important part of the process. The fire is being used to protect the neighboring laundromat. We have seven injuries, five firefighters, one member of EMS and one civilian. Everyone is stable, but this really shows you how incredibly serious this can be. Mayor Adams delivered a press conference alongside fire officials hours later amid the backdrop of a still active scene.

We have to really adopt to the city and then we have to educate the public. According to the City Council, more than 200 fires last year were tied to lithium ion batteries resulting in six deaths and 147 injuries. Just last week, the City Council unanimously passed legislation to ban the sale of unregulated e-bike batteries, which now awaits the mayor's approval. These devices should not be placed inside your home. It should not be placed in an emergency room. It should not be placed in a safe room. It should not be placed in a safe room.

It should not cause a great deal of harm, a great deal of destruction and the worst case scenario of the loss of life. Yeah, and the City Council also approved a measure requiring the FDNY to educate the public about the dangers of those lithium ion batteries. One very important piece of information to share with the City Council is the safety of the lithium ion batteries. The city council approved the only exit path for now. They're reliving Fordham Heights. Damn We'll send it back to you. Okay, Briella.

Thank you very much.
