Chipotle to pay ex-employees $240,000 after closing Maine location that tried to unionize
Hey Carl, good morning. Thanks so much. Chipotle Workers United just announcing this morning it's settled with the company for $240,000. That money will be paid out to former employees after the National Labor Relations Board found that the company violated the National Labor Relations Act when it closed in Augusta, Maine location as workers there sought to organize last year. Workers will receive between $5,821,000 depending on hours worked, pay rate and longevity. Prior to that store's closure, the company will also offer preferential rehiring to all employees at other locations for a year and will post a notice in stores in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts that it will not close stores or discriminate on the basis of union support that's according to the AFL-CIO in Maine this morning. So far just one Chipotle store in Michigan has successfully organized and that's with the Teamsters Union.
We did not hear back from Chipotle so far this morning on any comment but we'll bring anything as we get it. Back over to you.
