Why Mass. DPW crews are watching road temperatures so closely



about 26 27 degrees out here. So when the rain say hits your car, it is freezing on contact. And look at this windshield. You're really got to dig in here because there is a layer of ice here. Of course, the freezing rain, it's also hitting the roadways and parking lots. So they are very, very slick tonight. It is a race to keep up tonight.

The glaze, the mist, it just doesn't help. As the temperatures dive into the 20s, Yeah, the windshield is all ice. Everything is icing up. It doesn't take long for windshields to glaze over. When I just walked out of work, I was, I nearly almost slipped. And oftentimes you can't see the danger. In Bedford, they're preparing for a long night treating streets in town.

Bottom number in red is the pavement temperature. And DPW crews will be closely watching road temperatures. Black ice is, you know, that's certainly a concern. You just can't predict that you can't see it and super dangerous. I thought, uh, be safe and get some ice melt. John Ledger was out in Littleton tonight preparing for tomorrow. This is going to be on the sidewalk near our house.

Reluctantly accepting that, yes, it is still February. We're hoping that winter was almost over, but, you know, it's not over yet. So we got to be careful. So now during that report, it was about a minute long. I've been scraping this windshield. I'm on the passenger side now, but you can see I got maybe a third of it done. So you can just imagine overnight as the rain keeps falling and it's so cold.

It's going to be quite the job in the morning.
