Tesla to open supercharger network

Tesla to open supercharger network

And Tesla also making headlines as it plans to open its supercharger network to non-Tesla electric vehicles. Tesla along with the White House making that announcement earlier this week. The move should in theory give EV owners more options to charge their vehicle. While this is generally good news, we spoke with a security expert who says people should watch out for potential digital safety concerns. Now that they're going to open it up to other manufacturers, it does introduce security concerns of the applications that are used to interface with those chargers, especially for payment. It's not like a gas station where you take your credit card and you slide it into a reader in order to use a Tesla supercharger. I have to download a Tesla app.

I have to register with it, presumably either put my credentials or my credit card in the app or have to enter my credit card into the app every single time. So really where we see vulnerabilities get introduced is really in those applications. Tesla has already opened its network in countries around Europe. It's expected to open in America by the end of 2024.
