Rare blizzard takes aim at southern California
could make us on our site with ouracadamia locateHome, Conan. Alright, So I lived in Callie, so I know this is not something that you see in California on a regular lister going like a Tower or something like that. For People in the California Normally Funny San Francisco the storm system that moved through much of the U. S is giving them an opportunity to play in the snow A Blizzard warning, is an effect for this year in the water and the Southern California mountain ranges. the most. It's been a long time since the last storm. It's been a long time.
We're going to take a closer look at this unusual storms impact Nicole. Hey guys, what you're looking at the reason why we have that blizzard warning in effect here. We're in Mount Baldy just outside Los Angeles where we've already seen more than a foot of snow fall and much more to come tonight into really Saturday afternoon where we're going to be seeing a lot of snow falling and freezing rain and some freezing a mix of winter precipitation, so it's not all snow where we're standing at about 3500 ft above sea level. It's some freezing rain, some grapple and some snow all mixed together. Some of it sticking on the ground. Some of it melting on contact, which is why you're seeing my hair and my jacket all soaking wet, but really the threat with the system is not only how much snow we're seeing in southern California, but also how much snow we're seeing in the state of California. It's the white out conditions there, which is a huge issue when it comes to visibility and traveling through that it's not something you want to drive through when you've got winds at anywhere from 45 to 75 miles per hour.
You're not going to be able to see a couple miles in front of you, and it's why California Highway Patrol has been so really trying to do as much as they can to keep up with the snow and the snow. And it's really, really, really challenging. Those plows trying to keep up with all of this snow, but it's coming down so fast. Those plows are really struggling to keep that freeway open, and it's actually why they've closed it indefinitely. No word on when that will be open really because they just don't know when it's going to be safe enough. What we don't want to see are people sliding off the road, crashing into each other or worse, becoming trapped in their cars, trying to keep up with the snow. We're going to have to wait until we get to see how much snow we see at the end of this.
