MSU students continue processing emotions, prepare for return to campus in wake of deadly shooting

Chicago area students and their parents are mentally preparing for what will be a day of emotion and emotional release returning to Michigan State University. In the days since a deadly shooting at Michigan State University, Ellie D'Zona is still processing her motions as if she's grasping at straws. I'm like sad and then I feel nothing and then I don't even remember it if it actually had happened. The sophomore from Northbrook doesn't have class until Thursday but is returning early she says to find common ground with others. Everyone who's on campus that night like understands what everyone else like went through and it's just nice to to know that like I'm not the only one feeling the way that I do. Alicia Fonseca's daughter Emily sent her this photo after returning to campus this weekend. I love that she's back on campus and she's happy and she's enjoying the day.

The LaGrange Park mother says it's a stark contrast from last week. Now she's happy her daughter can find comfort on campus. I know these kids are going to need healing and it's going to take some time. Today MSU leaders laid out the return to campus plan ensuring students, faculty and staff there will be plenty of support and understanding. We know that everybody heals at their own pace and in their own manner and so getting it exactly right will not be possible but we will do the best we can in support of each other. The university said it will offer free counseling as well as academic accommodations for those who need it. We trust our instructors to make the professional decisions that they have to in this context in order to work in a manner that they can work and that they can work with students.

I'm just glad that they're trying to accommodate for like everyone's different situation. On Tuesday MSU students will be hosting a vigil to honor the lives of the three students lost as well as a town hall meeting with administrators on how to best move forward.
