First Blizzard Warning In 30 Years Issued For Los Angeles-Area Mountains

We're dealing with some cold conditions over portions of California across the west. This is a great shot from Mount Wilson, California. This is up in the San Gabriel Mountains, just above Pasadena. You go up and over the hills and you can see portions of downtown LA. Guess what? This is the first time LA office in Oxnard has issued a blizzard warning and quite sometime. I was just on the phone with Ryan before we went on with Kendall and I and they were talking about, you know, this is basically a winter storm warning, but now we've got the potential for whiteout conditions, which is why we've done this. And by the way, downtown LA, if you don't go above 60 degrees today, it doesn't look like you will.

It'll be the eighth consecutive day without reaching 60 degrees or so. Here's what we have. We've got snow moving over the Four Corners region and we do have some whiteout conditions over portions of New Mexico and Arizona. You have the Snow Squall warning, a couple of them, both of them in New Mexico. We go in a little bit tighter. This does include a portion of Interstate 40, heavily traveled Interstate 40, Snow Squall warning for Cibola, McKinley, San Juan and Sand of all counties as we've got some reduced visibility. Here's what we have with the alerts right across California.

Notice the blizzard warning over portions of Ventura County, the LA County Mountains as well. What a story. We're talking well above seven inches of snow within 12 hours. You've got some upslope affecting the grapevine. Start to see accumulating snow tonight. Snow levels tonight could drop as low as 1500 feet, but then they go back up. We've got some orographic lift as we go through the weekend.

The storm sets off just off the coast. You've got that southwest flow. When you talk southwest flow in the summertime, you're talking about a thick marine layer. This time around, we're talking two to four inches of rain per Santa Barbara County, the Ventura County, the coast and the valleys, four to six inches of rain for the foothills. Then you go above, say, 4,000 feet. You're talking easily two to five feet of fresh snow for the LA and the Ventura County Mountains, seven feet or higher. We're watching the power outages right now in California.

A lot of them are coming in out of the Bay Area. Thanks to Kendall, the winds for right now and come Saturday when the storm exits. We'll be watching for some thunderstorms Saturday morning. Maybe even some water. I'm Amy freeze. Welcome to Fox. Weathers YouTube page.

We have more great videos on the way. So make sure to subscribe to stay updated on all things weather.
